About ISHS
The Inter-School Horse Show series (ISHS) is the official horse show series for Maryland, DC and Virginia middle and high school equestrians and equestrian teams. Our unique show format makes horse showing more affordable and accessible to young riders, and our series gives 5th-12th grade equestrians of all experience levels the rare opportunity to compete as a team and represent their school in the show ring. We emphasize good sportsmanship and teamwork, and strive to create a positive, encouraging community that celebrates the hard work, dedication and athleticism of our riders.
ISHS began in 1995 and was started by Deveraux Raskauskas. Her oldest daughter wanted to participate in a school sport, but she was not interested in the standard sports which her school offered. She was an equestrian, and she didn’t want to compromise herself just so her school would respect her as an athlete. They approached the athletic director of her school, formed a team, contacted other schools…and suddenly the Inter-School Horse Show Series was born!
Today, ISHS is run by long-time host barn NFF Stables, who have been involved with the series since 2004. ISHS invites riders from both private and public schools in the DMV area. Some schools consider their riders part of an athletic team; others as a club. Riders are also welcome to compete as an Individual Rider.
We’re excited to begin another school year of competition and look forward to meeting you!
